Let thy mercy come upon me, that I may live (Psalm 119: 77)
Are you feeling sad? Are you struggling with one of the worst things in life? You are not alone.
It would be wonderful if we could chant certain spiritual words that could make all our problems go away, but that won't happen. Life does not consist of smiles and happy hearts even for God's people.
But from these dark experiences arose hope for help. The psalmist's despair, recorded in Psalm 119, leads to promises of relief and mercy. From the problem arises new understanding and strength. The psalmist freely expressed his feelings and confidence that God would take care of him.
My soul clings to the dust (verse 25). Then he prayed to God: Revive me according to your word.
My soul wept with grief (verse 28). Then he hoped in God's providence: Uphold me according to thy word.
I will follow the guidance of Your commandments (verse 32). Even in times of severe trial, the psalmist was determined to obey God.
Yes, express your despair to God but don't just stop there. Ask for His mercy and strength. Remain obedient to Him. Hold fast to His promises in the Scriptures. He will still accompany you through any trials -JDB
