HE KNOWS MY NAME

The sheep hear his voice and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them outside (John 10:3)

When we come to a large church, we learn many new things, join a wonderful small group, and enjoy solemn songs. But after a while, I realized that something was missing, namely that the pastor didn't know who I was. Because of the large number of people present, I could understand that it was impossible for him to know the names of everyone there.

Later, when we were at a smaller church, I received a handwritten welcome letter from the pastor. A few weeks later, Pastor Josh called my name and talked to me about the surgery I had recently had. It's nice when we get to know each other personally.

We all want to be known -- especially to be known by God. A song by Tommy Walker, entitled He Knows My Name, reminds us that God knows our every thought, sees every tear that falls, and listens when we cry. In John's Gospel it says, "The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name.... I am the good shepherd and I know my sheep" (John 10:3,14).

For the One who created the heavens and the earth, knowing billions of people is not a problem. God loves you very much (John 3:16), He thinks of you all the time (Psalm 139:17,18), and He knows your name (John 10:3) --CHK
