DO YOUR BEST

Both the one who plants and the one who waters are the same; and each one will receive his own reward according to his own work (1 Corinthians 3:8)

Sometimes we feel hopeless because what we are doing for God seems to be failing. The children in our Sunday School class seem restless and pay little attention to what we have to say. The neighbors we try to introduce to the gospel seem indifferent. Our own family members seem distant from God. The world that we pray so earnestly in the presence of God seems to be increasingly cruel and anti-Christian. All of this deepens our despair.

Consider the words of a Salvadoran clergyman who was murdered for his bold criticism of violence and injustice. He wrote thus, "We plant a seed that will grow later. We water the seed that has been planted, because we know that the seed offers a promise that will come true in the future. We lay the foundations that will require further growth. . . . We can't do everything, and that means there has to be a willingness to let go." This attitude will help us to do small things, and open up "opportunities that the grace of God will enter and do the rest".

Just as above, the Apostle Paul also urges us to be faithful to our duty and to wait on God who “gives growth” (1Cor. 3: 6,7).

Don't let despair stop you. In accordance with God's appointed time, our work will bear fruit -VCG
