A CHANGING HISTORY

Today a Savior has been born to you, who is Christ the Lord, in the city of David (Luke 2:11)

Now that we can have international conversations on mobile phones, send e-mails around the world, and download photos from outer space onto computers, it's hard to imagine the impact of a tiny satellite the size of a basketball. However, the event of the launch of the world's first artificial satellite, Sputnik I, carried out by the Soviet Union on October 4, 1957, brought us to the modern and historically changing Space Age. Nations race to catch up, technological development accelerates, and fear is replaced by hope about how much it means to humanity.

However, events that change today and the future sometimes happen unexpectedly. So it was with the birth of Jesus; He was just a baby born to a couple of ordinary people in a small town. However, that event has changed history. News from the angels to the shepherds began to spread: "Today a Savior has been born to you, even Christ the Lord, in the city of David" (Luke 2:11). Nineteen centuries later, Phillips Brooks wrote of Bethlehem, "Many years of hopes and fears have been answered by Your presence tonight."

When we open the doors of our hearts to Christ the Lord and acknowledge Him as Savior, our future history will be changed, from now on and forever. This "great joy" (verse 10) is for everyone, wherever they are --DCM
