It is he who gives both apostles and prophets, ... preachers of the Gospel ... to equip the saints for the work of ministry (Ephesians 4:11,12)
My father-in-law, Pete, is a genius. He did not develop a scientific theory like Einstein. He is a genius as a craftsman. Try asking him about a problem heating or a clogged sink. He will be able to identify the problem intuitively and find a solution. When my in-laws come to visit, their meetings are like a home improvement show on TV. I often make notes. By watching Pete, I became equipped to make repairs myself.
In the church, there are spiritual leaders whose job it is to equip us for ministry. In Paul's letter to the Ephesians, he wrote about equipping people for ministry (Ephesians 4:11,12). The word used to equip here is like one used to describe Jesus' disciples mending their nets when Jesus called them into ministry (Mark 1:16-20). For three years, Jesus repaired the holes in their ministry net so they could become effective fishers of men (v. 17).
If you don't know how to find and get involved in a ministry, look for people who can show you how to do it. Watch how they use the Bible, pray, and work with people. You will soon discover that God is using you more effectively in the lives of others. You just need to be HDF equipped
