This is eternal life, namely that they know You, the only true God, and know Jesus Christ whom You have sent (John 17:3)
Eternity! Is there any concept more amazing than this? Our minds often have a hard time grasping the idea of an endless existence.
Arthur Stace of Sydney, Australia, is constantly haunted by the thought that those who do not know Christ will be lost to eternity. So he got up early in the morning and scrawled the word eternity in chalk on sidewalks all over town. Eventually he became known as the "Father of Eternity." Many people responded to his humble ministry by putting their faith in Jesus Christ.
When the Bible talks about eternal life, it also refers to our relationship with God, not just the passage of time. In John 17:3, Jesus explained that eternal life is knowing the true God intimately. But eternity also means a never-ending existence. The question is: Where will we spend eternity?
From time to time, we are all moving through time to eternity. Does this instill in us a joyful hope or a feeling of fear? It all depends on our relationship with Jesus Christ. He has given the only way to the Father (John 14:6; Acts 4:12). His sacrifice to atone for sin enables us to “be with the Lord” (1 Thessalonians 4:17).
