JI Rodale, a magazine publisher who is also a strict adherent of nutritious food, declared at the age of 72 that he would live to be 100 years old. That same week, when his prediction appeared in The New York Times newspaper, he was also interviewed on a television show and again Rodale stated that his body muscles were as strong as when he was young. However, some time after making his boast, Rodale died of a heart attack.
Dr. Stuart Berger, a nutritionist, claims that he has a recipe for living beyond a century. Even though Berger thought he had found the secret to eternal youth and managed to convince many people to follow his advice, he died in his sleep, aged 40, due to being overweight.
Then Jim Fixx, a writer who advocated running to prevent coronary heart disease. But at the age of 52, he died of a heart attack. And, ironically, he experienced a heart attack when he was running.
Intellectual abilities encourage us to make every effort to live a healthy life. However, in the final stage of analysis, each of us must pray, "In You I trust, O LORD...the days of my life are in Your hands (Psalm 31:15-16).
