HARD TIMES

In every way we are oppressed, but not crushed; we are exhausted, but not hopeless (2 Corinthians 4:8)

One way to measure spiritual maturity is to see our response when facing difficult times. If we are hopeless, doubt God's existence, or blame others, it means we still need to learn to mature.

When an explorer named Samuel Hearne (1745-1792) was on an expedition in northern Canada, suddenly his important climbing equipment broke down. That's why he decided to come back. After that, most of his supplies were stolen too. But Hearne's reaction was surprising. In his diary, he wrote, "Because the thieves have reduced my baggage, my journey has now become the easiest and most pleasant of all my previous journeys."

In the first century, when the Apostle Paul traveled from city to city preaching the gospel, he experienced much opposition and disappointment (2 Corinthians 4:8-10; 11:23-33). However, he repeatedly received help and hope when he turned to God.

How about you? How did you react the last time you had a tough time? Has your life gone awry? If yes, it means you need to ask God to give you patience and a positive perspective to face life's challenges with maturity in Christian faith (James 1:2-5). In difficult times, ask God for strength and wisdom. Then thank Him because He will strengthen your faith even more -DCE
