A number of homes in Ohio are located in unique locations. Precipitation that falls to the north of the building flows into Lake Ontario and the Gulf of St. Lawrence, while the south flows into the Mississippi River and the Gulf of Mexico. At any given moment on the right roof, even the slightest gust of wind can determine which direction the precipitation will flow. A change in wind direction causes a change in the "fate" of a drop of water more than 3200 km from its original final destination.
The spiritual application of this illustration is clear. With just a few wrong actions or word choices, we can influence and change the direction of other people's lives, including deflecting them from the purpose of eternal life.
This truth includes two things. An unkind word or an unseemly act can spoil much that is good. On the other hand, gentle words, helpful actions, friendly greetings, sincere testimonies of life in Christ, invitations to go to church, or constructive rebukes, will do much good. Small things like this can encourage someone, bring new hope, and can even be used by God to bring someone to Christ.
Always remember the story of housing, wind gusts and raindrops above. And let's pay attention to every little thing -- but of great value -- in our lives that can win others to Christ -- RWD
