Be aware and be alert! Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour (1Peter 5:8).
Several months after our family moved to a rural area in central Texas, I thought that there were no more snakes in the area. Residents living nearby said they had not seen a snake in a long time, and this made me feel relieved.
One afternoon, I opened the tool shed door and found a venomous snake coiled in the corner of the room. I then called my wife and daughter to alert us all. Then I killed the snake with a hoe.
The presence of the snake in the toolshed served as a valuable warning for us to be vigilant. I had been so reckless as to believe for granted that there was no longer any threat of snakes in the area.
The Bible says that we must be alert to the presence of the Devil, our spiritual enemy. "Be sober and watchful!" 1 Peter 5:8 reminds us, "Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour." In living life day by day, we must not assume that Satan does not exist, but we also need not be afraid of his presence. By knowing Satan's destructive abilities, we must depend on God's power to "fight him with firm faith" (v. 9).
Be careful and be on your guard! These are the alerts we need every day [DCM]
