THE SPEAKING CROSS

Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures... and... was raised, the third day (1 Corinthians 15:3,4)

Crosses adorn church steeples and mark burial sites. Sometimes a cross also marks the location of a person's death in a road accident. And crosses are often worn as jewelry.

The cross reminds people of Jesus Christ. I became aware of this when a businessman, noticing the little gold cross on the lapel of my jacket, asked, "Why do you believe in Christ?" I am happy to have the opportunity to testify about my faith in him.

Jesus died on the cross for us, but we do not worship a dead Savior. Our Lord's body was taken down from the cross and buried, then on the third day He reappeared in His glorified body.

The cross gives us a comprehensive picture of God's atoning death to pay the price of our sins, and His resurrection to free us from the power of death.

If that were not the purpose of Christ's death on the cross, we would all still be guilty before God and helpless when faced with death. But through faith in Him, we receive the forgiveness of all our sins and the assurance that death cannot hold us.

Have you looked at the cross and put your faith in the person who died there? This is the only sure and perfect way to recover from guilt and fear --Herb Vander Lugt
