Gentiles who do not have the law ... show that the contents of the law are written in their hearts (Rom. 2:14,15)
People who reject absolute standards of right and wrong are often inconsistent. When they feel they are being treated unfairly, they ask for standards of fairness to be upheld and expect everyone to abide by them. A philosophy professor begins each new semester by asking his students, "Do you believe that absolute values such as justice can be demonstrated?" The free-thinking disciples argued that everything is relative and that no single law can be applied universally.
Before the term ended, the professor gave a class a chance to debate the issue. Finally, he concluded, "Whatever your thoughts, know that absolute marks can be shown. If you don't agree, I won't pass you!" An enraged student immediately stood up and insisted, "That's not fair!" "You just proved my point," the professor replied. "In doing so, you have asked for a higher standard of fairness than mine."
God has gifted everyone with a conscience that will tell right and wrong (Rom. 2:14,15), and His moral standards are written in the Bible. Every time we use the words good and bad, we are implying a standard by which we will make such judgments. Biblical values can be applied to all ages because they come from God who is eternal and never changes -- DJD
