BELIEVE FIRST, SEE NEW

Blessed are those who have not seen, but have believed (John 20:29)

Do you see dramatic evidence that God is working in a mighty way in your life, or is your life simply quiet and routine?

Catherine Booth, who runs the Salvation Army with her husband William, emphasizes the need for us to be content to walk by faith. When he fell ill at the end of his life, he was talking to a friend about the difference between faith and sight. "One of the hardest lessons I had to learn," he said, "is distinguishing between faith and reality.... If in my entire life I have conquered everything with true faith and I found the reality to be very satisfying, then at this point I am just can expect the same.

Catherine was ready to walk through the shadows of the valley of death with the "true faith" without ever seeing the face of her Saviour. He quoted the belief that Paul spoke of in 2 Corinthians. "Our hearts are steadfast, and we prefer to move from this body to rest on God" (5:8). Catherine concluded, "All our enemies must be conquered by faith, not by reality." Then he said, "So is our last enemy, which is death, isn't it?"

Today, many people seek extraordinary experiences to strengthen their faith. However, like the lesson that Catherine had received, blessed are those who do not see, but believe (John 20:29).

IT'S GOOD TO STAND UP IN THE FAITH BEFORE ALL THINGS ARE Swayed BY FEELINGS
