Have you ever experienced that when you do something right, things just get worse? Does that show you are a bad person? Does that mean God rejected you?
Perhaps Joseph also had a similar question throughout the events recorded in Genesis 39. The problem started when he was sold into slavery by his brothers. Since then, even though he has been very good, problems continue to stalk him. For example, although Joseph maintained his integrity, he was accused of serious crimes against the wife of Potiphar, his employer.
Potiphar responded by throwing Joseph in prison. Joseph, a good man, honest, trusted in God, languishes in an Egyptian prison. Why didn't Allah let him go? Why doesn't the truth go unnoticed? Don't things really seem unfair?
For some time nothing happened to Joseph. However, what is important here is, "The LORD was with Joseph" (39:21). God was carrying out His plan, and for a while Joseph had to live in an Egyptian prison. What seems bad is actually good, because it is part of God's perfect plan.
Are there things that you feel are not working as they should? Make sure that you are doing what is right. Obey Allah and stay close to Him. Then, stand still and watch how He works out His perfect plan! -- JDB
