A missionary in Africa encountered great difficulties trying to translate the Gospel of John into the local language. He faced a problem translating the word believe. Despite his best efforts, he was always forced to jump over it when it came to the word.
Then one day a runner came breathless to the camp, having traveled a long way with a very important message. After relaying the message he had brought, he fell exhausted into a nearby hammock. He muttered a short sentence in the local language which seemed to express his tiredness as well as his satisfaction because he had found a really comfortable place to rest. Never before having heard those words, the missionary asked someone standing nearby what the runner had said. "Oh, he said, 'I can't take it anymore, I want to put all my burdens here!'" Immediately the missionary cried out, "Praise the Lord!
To truly believe, you must first admit that you are a sinner and cannot do anything to save yourself. Then turn from your sin and surrender yourself completely to Christ to be saved.
