NOT YOUNG ANYMORE

God loves the law, and He does not forsake those He loves. Until forever they will be preserved (Psalm 37:28)

While leaving a shop recently, I briefly heard the man serving me mutter dissatisfiedly, "He calls me 'Uncle', even though he is older."
Since childhood, Chinese culture taught me the courtesy to say, "Thank you, Uncle!" for the help I received.

This attitude has served me well so far, but now I have to reconsider using it. After looking into the mirror carefully, my eyes confirmed that now I was not as young as I thought.

Being young has many advantages, but with old age comes the joy that reflects God's faithfulness. David reminds us in Psalm 37, "I was young, now I am old, but I have never seen the righteous forsaken" (verse 25).

Now that I am in my fifties, I reflect and wonder how I could ever think that God abandoned me. Indeed He allowed me to face difficulties that seemed insurmountable, but now I know that they happened only to shape me. God always takes care of me, and when I fall, I know "the Lord [who] supports [my] hand" (v. 24).

We will always get older, but we will also be more grateful for God's generosity. Most importantly, we are grateful that He puts love through His laws in our hearts that keep our steps from faltering (verse 31)

God's faithfulness we know all the time; In joy and sorrow He unites; So often God is ready to help, Answer prayer, give new strength. --F. Hess
