: ... your life is worthy of Him and pleases Him in all things, and you bear fruit in all good works (Colossians 1:10)
A child in first grade smiled with satisfaction as he handed me the results of his spelling test. His teacher had big words on his test paper "100% -- good!" The boy said, "I'm going to show Mom and Dad the results of this test because I know it will make them happy." I saw him come home by bus, impatient to see how his parents expressed joy over the achievements that had been achieved by their son. The desire to make his mom and dad happy is definitely one of the most important motivating factors in life.
In 2 Timothy 2:3, Paul describes the picture of a soldier serving devotedly to please his commander. Through this description, Paul wanted Timothy to know his main reason for serving God, even in a difficult condition. Wholehearted devotion which is marked by hard work and attention to God's provisions, brings the greatest glory to God when the dedication comes from a surrendered and loving heart.
In His humanity, our Savior hoped that His abominable death and existence, which would become a sacrifice for human sin, would pass Him by. However, He prayed, "Not my will, but Yours be done" (Luke 22:42). The primary motivation Jesus had was the desire to please His Father. This should be our passion too --HVL
