Even in old age they still bear fruit, become fat and fresh (Psalm 92:15)
There is a saying that: "If old age is not a thought, then old age is not a problem."
John Kelley must have lived up to that maxim. Kelley, who died in 2004 aged 96, had run the Boston Marathon 58 times (42 kilometers each) -- including his last in 1992 when he was 84 years old.
Kelley's unforgettable performance is a role model for all of us to stay active for as long as we can. So many middle-aged people are starting to rest their bodies. Christians also often leave service to Jesus in the same way.
Each of us has a responsibility to God as long as He gives us physical and mental strength, to work wholeheartedly "as for the Lord" (Colossians 3:23). We are never called to leave life and sail home to heaven.
The psalmist says that the righteous "even when they are old they still bear fruit" (Psalm 92:15). For people who are still physically strong, that means they must continue to serve actively. For those who can no longer work, that means they should be active in prayer and in quiet service.
Make sure that old age does not stop us from always bearing fruit. We need to keep moving for Allah --JDB
