WHAT ARE YOU FEARING?

[Jesus] said to them: "It is I, do not be afraid!" (John 6:20)

One of Grimm's fairy tales tells of a rather stupid young man who doesn't know what it means to tremble with fear. People tried to frighten him by putting him in various scary situations, but to no avail. Finally the young man was able to feel trembling, but not from fear. He trembled when someone poured a bucket of cold water complete with fish floundering over him as he slept.

Something is wrong in us if we are never afraid. Fear is a natural human reaction to any kind of difficulty or danger, and God does not condemn it. However, God also does not want us to be paralyzed by fear. Jesus repeatedly said to His disciples, "Do not be afraid" (Luke 5:10; 12:4; John 6:20). Every time he says it, Jesus uses a verb form that contains the meaning of continuity. In other words, Jesus said to them, "Do not continue to be afraid."

Let us not be conquered by our fears. We also should not refuse to do what God wants just because we are afraid. God can turn our fear into strength. We can trust God and be “fearless” (Psalm 56:12).

Courage is not the absence of fear, but the mastery over fear. So, let's fight our fear and face it with faith in God, because He has said, "I will never leave you and I will never forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5) --David Roper

WE ARE ABLE TO FACE FEAR OF ANYTHING
IF WE KNOW THAT GOD IS NEAR US
