GRAPHITIES

Even if a person has an abundance, his life does not depend on it (Luke 12:15)

Pastor and evangelist EV Hill returned to the home of his Lord and Savior on February 25, 2003. As a conference speaker, he was well-liked by many. Not many people get the attention and respect from various circles of society like him.

Years ago, Reverend Hill was invited to speak at a church, on the outskirts of a large city in the southern United States. At the opening of his sermon, Pastor Hill commented on the differences between the affluent suburbs and the poor urban areas where he served. "I know what I'm missing," he said. "There's no graffiti here at all. I'd be willing to make one for you guys. I'll take a bucket of paint and walk around your area.
Then I'll write this one word on your million dollar house and expensive European car: temporary. Just that one word: temporary. None of that wealth is eternal."

We enjoy and care for our possessions, and rightly so. However, Jesus said that we should not be controlled by our possessions, because they cannot be carried into eternity (Luke 12:15-21). The house is just a shelter box from the rain and heat; a car is just a tool to get us from one place to another. Since we can't take them with us when we die, we'd better see them as EV Hill sees them: while --Dave Egner
