YOU AND YOUR PROPERTY

It is very difficult for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 19:23)

Six armed robbers broke into a safe deposit box at a London bank and stole more than seven million dollars worth of valuables. One woman, who owns $500,000 worth of jewelry, laments, "Everything I own is in there. My whole life is in that box."

Some people have taken foolish risks by holding on to their possessions. They died from storming into a burning house or were killed fighting off robbers carrying firearms. They seem to feel that without possessions, life is meaningless. Others fall into despair, even committing suicide when their possessions are lost.

Deep attachment to wealth is very dangerous for our spiritual life. Unhealthy attachment to material things can prevent unbelievers from coming to Christ and prevent believers from living for Him. The story of the rich young man vividly illustrates this truth. Jesus' words, "You cannot serve God and [money]" (Matthew 6:24) certainly applies to all of us.

Make a wide distance between you and your property. That way you will be spared from much grief. If you don't believe in Christ, don't make a mistake like the rich young man did. It will make you lose your soul --HVL
