TESTED AND CORRECT

Many people call themselves kind, but faithful people, who will find them? (Proverbs 20:6)

We are often disappointed in unfaithful people. A relative promised to write a letter, but months passed without a letter being received. A pastor said that he would visit when we were sick, but he never came to the hospital or to our house. A friend agrees to accompany us in misfortune, but doesn't even call. Many people say they will pray for us, but they quickly forget our needs. Someone promised to do an important task for us, but never did. We wonder, "Many people call themselves kind, but faithful people, who will find them?" (Proverbs 20:6).

We cannot do much against the infidelity of others. But we can do many things for our loyalty to others. When we make a promise, we must keep it. When we tell someone that we will pray for him, we need to follow up and do it. When we express loyalty and love to others, then we can do small things that show them that we are serious.

The Apostle Paul said that one of the fruits of the Spirit is faithfulness (Galatians 5:22). God will create in us a steadfast spirit if we take seriously what we say to others about the things we will do for them, and if we live by it.

Ask God to make you a trustworthy person, a tried and true person —David Roper
