SPIRITUAL HUNGER

I will send a famine into this land, not a hunger for food and not a thirst for water, but will hear the word of the Lord (Amos 8:11)

In a novel titled No Blade of Grass, a vicious virus invades the grasses of the world. Not just backyard grass he attacked, but all kinds of grass, including wheat, barley, rye, oats [a type of wheat], and rice. Within months, the world fell into starvation and its brutal counterpart, namely violence. People started fighting and killing for food.

The novel depicts scenes that occurred in the world during the recent famine. When it aired on the television news, the situation looked dire. However, I can only imagine it.

The prophet Amos spoke of another type of famine. He called it a hunger for “hearing the word of the Lord” (8:11). If a lack of food can lead to sickness and death, a lack of words can have lasting consequences. Without connecting with God's word, we will lack the wisdom for life and the message of eternal life in Christ. As Christians, we need "pure and spiritual milk, so that you may grow" (1 Peter 2:2). We too can feel what the prophet felt when he said, "When I meet Your words, I enjoy them; Your words are a joy to me, and a joy to my heart" (Jeremiah 15:16).

The world today is starving for the knowledge of a God who can satisfy the needs of the human heart. Let us help fill their hearts by sharing His word --WEC

WITHOUT HAVE A HEART TOWARDS GOD
WE CAN'T LISTEN TO HIS WORD
