Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12: 2).
Two college students in Moorhead, Minnesota, painted a mural on the outside wall of their dorm room. According to news in USA Today, their painting shows a group of fish swimming in the same direction except for one fish heading in the opposite direction.
The one fish was meant as an ancient symbol for Christ. On the painting is written "Walking against the current". Seeing the painting, university officials thought it could offend non-Christians. He then ordered the students to repaint the walls.
In obedience to our Lord, we too must be willing to go against the tide of our society. If we follow Jesus, then our goals, values, and habits should be different from those of non-Christians. That was the situation in the first century when the pagans became confused and considered wrong according to the Christian lifestyle. Peter wrote, “Therefore they marvel that you have not plunged with them into the same pool of immorality, and they have slandered you” (1 Peter 4:4).
If we march according to the beat of different drummers, of course our steps will not coincide with certain aspects of society. This of course requires faith, courage, and courtesy. But with God's enabling grace, we can be effectively different —Vernon Grounds
WHEN WE WALK WITH GOD
WE WILL NOT STEP IN ONE WITH THE WORLD
