Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord (Psalm 119: 1).
Honey ants survive difficult times by relying on certain members of their group known as “honey receptacles”. They suck so much honey that their bodies will swell until they resemble tiny round berries. As a result they could barely move. When food and water are scarce, these ants act as “social bellies” and sustain the life of the entire colony by providing what they have stored in their own bodies.
Likewise, the messenger of God must fill his heart and mind with the truth of Scripture. Only if he is faithful in applying God's word to his own life can he honestly offer meaningful encouragement and advice to others.
God commanded the prophet Ezekiel to eat the scroll that contained the message of "lamentation, and weeping, and wailing" (Ezekiel 2:10). Because he was obedient to God and applied the lesson to his own heart first, he was able to boldly deliver a life -giving message to all who would listen.
As believers, we must also develop a “social belly” by digesting Bible truth and allowing the Spirit of God to make it a part of our lives. Then, filled with God's word, we will be able to speak effectively to others who need spiritual nourishment —Mart De Haan
