God is pleased with his people, he crowns the humble with salvation (Psalm 149: 4)
For some, the word holiness conjures up images of a shy and rigid person, that is, a "good" person in the worst sense of the word, with a sullen and gloomy face. They are full of self-righteousness and rigid obligations, "hold on to the next life," as the Washington Post writer described it.
Most people long for truth and goodness. However, that desire can be undermined by what they see in some Christians, who they consider to be self-righteous and judgmental. To unbelievers, "good qualities" are far less attractive than vices, so they choose bad traits even though they may hate them. Joy Davidman, wife of CS Lewis, said, "One self-righteous hypocrite makes a hundred unbelievers."
If the world had seen the real thing, namely the extraordinary quality of life that Peter spoke of, such a captivating and captivating life, many people would have come to the Savior (1 Peter 2:12). "If only 10% of the world's population had [holiness]," CS Lewis wondered, "wouldn't the whole world be changed and enjoy happiness before the year was over?"
We can do it! When we lean our lives on the Spirit of God, then we can live a very beautiful life in front of the world that is watching us. The poet of Israel assures us, "The Lord ... crowns the humble" (Psalm 149: 4)-DHR
