IN GOD'S HANDS

"Retribution is my right. I will take revenge, ”says the Lord (Romans 12:19)

The whole world was terrified when Chechen rebels killed hundreds of people confined to a school in Beslan, Russia. Most of the victims were children, including the six children of the Totiev brothers, who were active in the Christian ministry.

One of the Totiev brothers gave a reaction that for most of us is a difficult choice. It said, "Yes, we suffered a loss that could not be replaced by anything, but we did not take revenge." He believed what God said, recorded in Romans 12:19, “Vengeance is mine; I will demand revenge. "

Some of us find it hard to shake off the bitterness of petty injustices, and say nothing of great evils like the one faced by this family. Totiev took a stand to let go of the bitterness and not seek revenge. This attitude shows that they hate evil (verse 9), but do not repay evil for evil (verse 17). What a different situation our marriage, family, church, and all of our relationships would be if the Holy Spirit alone would enable us to have a Christlike attitude so as to put all the injustices we receive into God's hands.

Be still for a moment and examine your heart. If there is bitterness toward others or a desire for revenge, ask the Holy Spirit to help you not to “overcome evil, but overcome evil with good” (verse 21) -VCG
