One of them, seeing that he was healed, returned, praising God with a loud voice (Luke 17:15)
Several years ago, a disheveled and poorly adjusted teenager named Tim (not his real name) declared his belief in Christ during an evangelistic outreach. A few days later, still disheveled but bathed in the love of Christ, he was sent to my house so I could help him find the right church. That was the beginning of his church with me.
Although Tim needed and received much loving help in spiritual growth as well as in basic social decency, there was one character who remained unchanged in his love for the untamed Savior.
After Sunday's service, Tim rushed over to me, looking confused. He exclaimed, Why me? I kept wondering to myself, why me? Oh, no, I think, he became one of those Christians who liked to complain. But then with outstretched hands, he continued, Of all the people in the world who are greater and smarter than me, why did God choose me? Then he clapped with joy.
Over the years I have heard many Christians, myself included, ask, Why me? when facing difficult times. But Tim was the first person for me to ask that question regarding God's blessing. Many people were also converted at the same time as Tim, but I wonder, how many of them humbly ask, Why me? Hopefully we often question it too -JEY
