HONESTY AND KINDNESS

The desired quality in a person is his loyalty; better is the poor than a liar (Proverbs 19:22)

An honest and kind man drove a car through the streets of San Francisco for over an hour. He wanted to find a woman who had a wallet containing $1,792 left in the back seat of her taxi. I liked what he said when some of his fellow taxi drivers made fun of him for not taking the money. He answered them, I am a card bearer of the Christian faith. What's the point of going to church if you don't practice what you preach?

In the book of Exodus 23, the principles of honesty and goodness are given simultaneously to the Israelites in the law that God gave them. They must be honest enough to return stray cattle to their owners, even if that person is an enemy (v. 4). They must be kind enough to their enemies to help a stubborn donkey stand up (v. 5). They must be very concerned so that the poor are treated fairly and given assistance, even if doing so can bring harm (verses 6-9). The landowners must leave their land in the seventh year, and allow the poor people freely to collect some of the produce from the field (vv. 10,11).

Honest people can be cruel people. Kind people may be soft and pay little attention to the truth. However, if you put honesty and kindness together, these two will make a great couple that honors God and blesses fellow HVLs
