For forty days He repeatedly appeared to them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God (Acts 1:3)
In the forty days between His resurrection and ascension to heaven, Jesus repeatedly appeared to His disciples . How meaningful and wonderful those times were! In every appearance, He simply appears, then mysteriously disappears from view. He came and spoke to the disciples about the Kingdom of God (Acts 1:3), even eating with them (Luke 24:43). And indeed, these apparitions were not their imagination.
As a child, I often reflected on these mysterious events. Where did Jesus come from when He appeared, and where did He go when He disappeared? In the end I just believed that Jesus was able to go up and down from heaven to earth many times during that 40 day period. Then on the 40th day, He ascended into heaven and disappeared behind a cloud to sit at the right hand of the Father until the time came for Him to return (Acts 1:9-11; Ephesians 1:20-21).
The mystery above remains a mystery, but I find comfort because the Bible records these sightings. The existence of these events strengthens my faith because it means that before Jesus' disciples started preaching the Gospel, they were truly convinced that He was alive. Each of these sightings also convinced me that heaven was very close.
