Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28)
A woman is trapped on the top floor of a burning building. Flames and smoke filled all the exits. When the firefighters arrived, one of them climbed the stairs to the window where the woman was screaming for help. With outstretched hands, the officer offered to help him. However, when the woman looked down and saw how high it was from the ground, she panicked and returned to the room.
The officer asked the woman to trust him for her own safety, but the request was ignored. In the midst of that stupid fear, he actually moved away from the officer's helping hand. Finally, after the officer's efforts were unsuccessful and he was forced down, he said with tears in his eyes, "I tried everything I could to save him, but he refused me!"
Those words made me think about the spiritual danger that confronts so many humans. Jesus longed to forgive their sins, but they stubbornly rejected the salvation He offered. By refusing to believe in Him, they are like the woman who died in vain amidst the flames, even though she could have escaped.
Friends, believe in the Lord Jesus right now! He invites you to come to Him (Matthew 11:28). Don't be the person to whom God has to say, "I tried to do everything to save him, but he rejected Me!" --RWD
