If my lord were to face the prophet in Samaria, then surely the prophet would heal him of his illness (2 Kings 5:3)
If you're like most people, you probably think that when God was going to do something important, He would use important people like John Stott, Billy Graham, or Joni Eareckson Tada. The rest, ordinary people like us will only fill this realm until Jesus comes. However, that's not true.
In the Holy Bible we often see God using ordinary people to do something. Consider the prophets in the Old Testament and the disciples in the New Testament.
The girl in 2 Kings 5 is just an ordinary servant. However, he boldly suggested that Naaman see a prophet from Israel to be healed. What sounds like a simple plea is actually a bold suggestion. By going to Israel, Naaman could be seen as disrespecting the local idol gods and inviting criticism from the people for endangering his country's military might.
This unnamed servant may pay a heavy price for giving such advice, but he knows where the true source of healing is. The girl was very concerned about Naaman's health, because of that she bravely risked herself to direct Naaman to that source, which is the only living God.
Like this young slave girl, let us allow ourselves to be used by God to direct our families and friends to the source of true hope and healing --JMS
