For You are a place...a refuge from the storm (Isaiah 25:4)
Life magazine's finest correspondents have been sent around the world asking the question, "What is the meaning of life?" They interviewed philosophers and children, taxi drivers and boaters on the Nile. And the more than a hundred photographs they produced can give you an idea.
One dramatic photo, that of a lighthouse off the coast of England, caught my attention. A violent Atlantic storm created gigantic whirlwinds that surrounded the brick building, nearly swallowing it. But in the sheltered interior, even though it was surrounded by a violent whirlwind, the lighthouse keeper appeared. He surveyed the beach as usual, hands tucked casually into his pockets as a gigantic whirlwind whipped around him.
This wonderful illustration reminds me of the storms of terrible trials we face in life. And I am grateful for God's promise that we will be as safe as the lighthouse keepers. The words of Isaiah 25:4 are true for all believers: God is our refuge from storms of physical suffering, emotional shocks and spiritual attacks.
With protection from Him we will be able to endure every trial with the belief that He who protects us will not be moved.
And that confidence gives us peace no matter how terrible the situation around us is -- DCE
GOD CAN SMOOTH THE STORM THAT surrounds you BUT HE WILL SMOOTH THE STORM WITHIN YOU MORE OFTEN
