What have you provided, for whom will it be? (Luke 12:20)
Many travelers carry excess luggage while on vacation. They took more shoes, clothes and things with them than they needed. They think, "I'd better take everything I need with me because later I won't be able to go back to get it." However, it would be less of a burden on them if they asked, "How much stuff can I live with?" As a result, they were busy carrying suitcases that were heavier than they should be. Some people even buy so many new things on vacation that they have to leave some of their own at the hotel.
We tend to accumulate too many treasures in the course of our life. We are bombarded with advertisements urging us to buy things we "can't live without." As a result, we buy more, and more stuff.
The rich man in Jesus' parable (Luke 12:13-21) may have dreamed of all the good things that could be obtained because of his abundant harvest. He said he would build a bigger barn, and spend time eating, drinking, and having fun. However, God said to him, "You fool, on this very night your soul will be taken from you, and what you have prepared, for whom will it be?" (verse 20).
The principle is clear: be "rich before God", not rich in possessions (verse 21). Besides, you have to leave all that behind when it's time to return to your eternal Home --Dave Egner
THIS LIFE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE TREASURES WE KEEP
