His goodness endures forever (Psalm 112:9)
We often feel unhappy as we get older because we miss the "happy old days," when we enjoyed health, wealth, position, or power. However, all that this world gives will not last long. They are uncertain, changeable, and impermanent. In time, all of that can be taken from us and replaced with poverty, exile, weakness, and suffering.
When we realize that this world and everything in it is impermanent and unpredictable, we end up wishing for something that is eternal. What can we still have?
The Psalmist wrote, "His [God's] goodness endures forever" (112:9). It is inviolable and cannot be weathered by time and circumstances. Not a single event that occurs in this world can deprive him. This will not change, even if life takes ours one by one.
This virtue becomes ours if we draw near to God through faith in Jesus Christ (see Romans 1:17; 3:21-26). He is our rock, our salvation, and the only source of true and lasting happiness. Psalm 112:1 says, "Blessed are those who fear the Lord, who delight in all His commandments."
Rejoice in God and His word, then you will find true happiness. Only He can give goodness that will remain forever --DHR
