WHO SAYS THE TRUTH?

Speak the truth with one another, for we are members of one another (Ephesians 4:25)

If television commercials were telling the truth, glamorous movie stars and athletes would surely be wearing the product everyone should buy, as they advertised. However, as Time magazine reveals (and most viewers suspect), many famous people don't use the products they advertise.

And what about autobiographies? According to the same article, the books were not always written by the person whose name is listed in the book, but by an unnamed author.

This dishonesty, says Time, is a symptom of the deception that pervades our society. What will this civilized life be when people increasingly ignore God's commandments not to lie? (Exodus 20:16, Leviticus 19:11; Ephesians 4:25).

Jesus said loudly to those who commit such lies. He said that they were the children of Satan (John 8:44), and they were unable to speak the truth because they refused to hear it (John 8:43-47).

God's Word urges us to speak the truth (Proverbs 12:17-22). Only by obeying Him do we have new hope to prevent society from being swallowed up by suspicion and distrust.

We are people who must speak the truth like Jesus, as it is written in the Bible, "Deceit was not in His mouth" (1 Peter 2:22). Let us pursue that holy standard of living today and in the days to come -- VCG
