TRAVEL WITHOUT LOADS

What have you provided, for whom will it be? (Luke 12:20)

Many travelers carry excess luggage while on vacation. They carry more shoes, clothes and goods than they need. They think, "I'd better bring everything I need because I won't be able to go home to pick it up later." In fact, their burden will be lessened if they ask, "How many things can I live with?" As a result, they are busy carrying luggage that is heavier than it should be. Some people even bought so many new things during the holidays that they had to leave some of their own at the hotel.

We tend to accumulate too many treasures in the course of our lives. We are bombarded by advertisements that urge us to buy things "without which we cannot live." As a result, we buy more, and more things.

The rich man in Jesus' parable (Luke 12:13-21) may have dreamed of all the good things that could be obtained because of his bountiful harvest. He said he would build a bigger barn, and spend time eating, drinking, and having fun. However, Allah said to him, "O you fool, this very night your soul will be taken from you, and what have you prepared, for whom will it be?" (verse 20).

The principle is clear: be "rich in the sight of God", not rich in wealth (verse 21). Besides, you have to leave all that behind when it's time to return to the Eternal Home --Dave Egner

THIS LIFE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE TREASURES WE KEEP
