PRAYER PARENTS

Then people brought little children to Jesus, so that He would lay His hands on them and pray for them (Matthew 19:13)

One young mother wrote the following to a magazine, "I wish I could cover my children with a bubble wrap to protect them from the big and evil outside world."

Woman writer Stormie Omartian understands how the mother feels. In her book The Power of A Praying Parent, she writes thus, "One day I cried out to God, 'Lord, this burden is too heavy for me. I cannot afford to keep an eye on my son all the time for 24 hours. peace?'"

God responded by guiding Stormie and her husband to become prayer parents. They began to pray for their son every day, mentioning every detail of his life in prayer.

The desire to cover our children with "bubbles" is rooted in fear. It is a common trend, especially among mothers. Covering them with prayer, as Jesus did (Matthew 19:13-15), is a very powerful alternative. He cares for our children more than we care, so we can put them in His hands by praying for them. He didn't promise us that nothing bad would happen to them. But when we pray, He will give us the peace we desire (Philippians 4:6,7).

This is a challenge for all parents, even for those with grown children: never stop covering your children with prayer! --Joanie Yoder
