HOPE FOR WORRYING

God is my shepherd, I will not fail (Psalm 23:1)

Everyone must have felt worried. I was once a “professional worryer”. Every day I was always engrossed in thinking about all my worries, one by one.

One day, I had to face an unpleasant medical test, so I became restless with fear. Finally I decided to take the test by focusing on the first three words of Psalm 23: “The Lord is my shepherd”. This pattern of meditation practice not only calmed me down, but also gave me a lot of new insights. Then, as I slowly began to meditate on the entire psalm, the Lord gave me more understanding. Finally, in various conferences, I was able to share what the Lord taught me.

If you worry easily, there is hope for you too! Rick Warren, author of The Purpose-Driven Life, writes: “Worry is when you think about a problem over and over again. But if you meditate on God's word over and over again, it means you are meditating. So if you can worry, then you can meditate too!”

The more we meditate on God's word, the less we need to worry. In Psalm 23, David contemplates the Great Shepherd, and is not worried. Later, God chose David to shepherd His people (Psalm 78:70-72). God uses people who honestly say, “The Lord is my shepherd” --Joanie Yoder

THE MORE OFTEN WE REFLECT ON GOD'S WORDS
THE MORE WE DON'T NEED TO WORRY
