BIG PROFIT

It is true that worship, if accompanied by a sense of sufficiency, gives great profit (1Timothy 6:6)

Over the last 15 years, a businessman from New Jersey has donated more than $600 million to colleges, medical centers, and other eligible parties, without naming him. When an official procedure required him to reveal his identity, he simply said, "No one can wear two pairs of shoes at once. I just feel that I have enough money."

A philanthropist friend explained that the man actually didn't own a house or car, traveled only by economy class, wore just a $15 watch, because he "didn't want to be ruined by the money he had."

Few people seem to be able to treat their earnings as servants and not as masters. Saving money does seem more natural and reasonable than donating it to someone else. Even as followers of Christ, we mistakenly believe that "worship is a source of profit" (1 Timothy 6:5).

To overcome such dangerous thoughts, the Apostle Paul wrote, "Indeed, worship if accompanied by a sense of sufficiency, gives great benefits.... As long as there is food and clothing, it is sufficient" (verses 6, 8). Contentment, according to one observer, "is not an economic trait but a spiritual achievement. Nor does it prioritize calculation but the state of our hearts."

Do you hold on to your money or give it away with the sense of contentment you have within you? This will show through what you do with what you have -- DCM
