AWESOME LIFE

For by grace you are saved by faith; it is not the result of your work, but a gift from God (Ephesians 2:8)

This is a story about a man, my co-worker. David is an amazing person. It is admirable because of his steadfast attitude of serving for 33 years in the same ministry. Admirable for his tender and caring love for his wife of 30 years. Admirable for his unwavering dedication to his children, both in success and in adversity. It is admirable that he is respected by his co-workers and acquaintances. It's amazing because when he died suddenly at the age of 56, no one said anything bad about him. Spectacular!

However, as his friends and family sat quietly at his burial, the pastor invited people to look at David's life in the right light. The whole family praised David's character and cheered everyone on with the belief that he was in heaven. Then the pastor said, "Nothing of David's good deed could get him to heaven for even a second. However, he is there because he has received God's salvation through Christ."

Correct! However wonderful our lives may be, we are not saved by them. Salvation is a gift.

Evaluate your life. Even if you appear spiritual and are loved by many, you will not be able to enter heaven unless you receive the gift of eternal life from God. Ask Jesus Christ to forgive your sins. That's what will make your life truly awesome -- JDB
