All of these ... were written as a warning to us (1Corinthians 10:11)
A few months after the devastating Asian tsunami in December 2004, an amazing story emerges about the survivors of Simuelue Island's inhabitants. The island is the closest inhabited landmass to the epicenter.
A news report reported that of the entire population of Indonesia's remote island of 75,000, only 7 people died when a 9-meter-high wave hit half an hour after the earthquake. For decades, the inhabitants have heard stories told by their ancestors about the giant waves that destroyed thousands of people on the island in 1907. So when the ground shakes and the sea recedes from the shore, residents remember the warnings of their ancestors. and fled to higher ground.
The chapter of 1 Corinthians 10 describes a spiritual disaster that we can avoid. After the Israelites were freed from slavery in Egypt, they always turned their backs on God. Paul reiterates their recurring weakness and disastrous consequences, writing: "All these things have been done as an example for us . . . and were written as a warning to us" (verses 6,11). Their failures are recorded so that we avoid the disaster that will occur if we do not obey.
If there are warning signs in our lives today, it means that it is time for us to run away from the sin that destroys ourselves, to a higher place, and receive the blessing of God's forgiveness --DCM
BY OBEYING THE WARNINGS
