Mary . . . sat at the feet of the Lord and kept listening to His words, while Martha was busy serving (Luke 10:39,40)
In North Carolina there was a mother who—really—became a magician. And indeed, the whole family can put on a show of throwing household appliances simultaneously in the air and then catching them. Imagine how big their dinner party was!
Today many women are also "magicians", whether running a business or being an ordinary housewife. The task of completing daily household chores usually falls into the hands of women, especially mothers. Women in the 21st century have a lot to do at the same time—from frying pans and strollers to keeping promises and paying mortgages. All of this can be really time consuming.
Society values people who can stick to a busy schedule and get things done. Thus, women who simply sit at “Jesus' feet” (Luke 10:39,40) are sometimes considered unproductive. But Jesus praised Mary because she had spent time with Him (verse 42). Of course there is still work to be done. But Maria had chosen the best.
Men can help women to spend time with Jesus by participating in the daily household chores. As for women, stop doing daily "magic" to have time to fellowship with God — DB
