And as long as he seeks God, God makes all his efforts successful (2 Chronicles 26:5)
It is sad to watch someone start his life well, but then his life ends tragically. Such is the story of Uzziah's life. Uzziah was made king at a very young age, 16 years old. Although still young, we read that Uzziah "did what was right in the eyes of the Lord .... He sought God all the days of Zechariah, who taught him to fear God. And as long as he sought God, God made all his efforts successful" 26: 4,5).
Uzziah's fame spread widely and the strength of his army increased (verse 8). He had 2,600 chiefs and 307,500 armies that helped him defeat the enemy (verses 12,13).
But tragically, after that we read, "After he became strong, he became arrogant so that he did destructive things" (verse 16). Uzziah no longer remembered Him who had bestowed success and those who had given divine guidance. He sinned against God when he burned incense in the temple of God, which is why God struck him with leprosy (verses 16-19). King Uzziah was "a leper unto the day of his death" (verse 21).
In order to finish this life well, we must avoid "arrogant" attitudes. Let Proverbs 16:18 be a reminder to us, "Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall." Let us always seek God, obey Him, and be thankful for all He has done --Albert Lee
