PRAYER PANANCE

Commit your life to the Lord and trust in Him, and He will act (Psalm 37: 5)

In her book Beyond Our Selves, Catherine Marshall writes about how she learned to surrender her whole life to God through "prayer of surrender". When he faced the circumstances he feared, he often panicked and showed a begging spirit in prayer: "O God, I must have this and that." At that time God seemed far away. However, when he handed over the frightening situation to Him so that He could handle it according to His will, the fear disappeared and peace returned. From that moment on, God began to fix everything.

In Psalm 37, David speaks of commitment and surrender: “Commit your life to the Lord,” he said, “and trust in Him” (verse 5). True believers are those who sincerely follow and serve God. Encouraging others to have a greater commitment is something that is well worth doing. However, commitment to God and trusting in Him implies submitting every area of our lives to His wise control, especially when fear and panic attack us. The promised results of wholehearted commitment and trust are the best things God has done for us.

Instead of trying to dispel your fears with prayers of panic, it is better to surrender yourself to God through a prayer of surrender, and see what He will do — Joanie Yoder
