I call you friends, because I have made known to you all that I have heard from My Father (John 15:15)
On the flight back from Europe to the United States, I sat next to a little girl who had been talking since she sat down. He told me about his family history and all about his puppies who were in a special room on the plane. He happily pointed at everything around us, "Look at this! Look at that!" I can't help but feel that this eight hour flight is a very long one!
After conversing for a while, he suddenly fell silent. He pulled the blanket up to cover his body. I thought he was going to sleep for a while. I immediately took the opportunity to rest, and reached for a nearby magazine. However, before I could open the magazine, I felt a tiny elbow touch my waist. When I looked at the little girl, she immediately reached out her hand and said, "Mr. Joe, will you be friends with me?"
My heart melted too. "Sure," I said, "let's be friends."
In the midst of the chaos of life, when we think we want to be alone, Jesus will stretch out His nail-scarred hand and invite us to be His friends. He said, "I call you friends, because I have made known to you all that I have heard from My Father" (John 15:15 ). We have two choices: to be alone, or to open our hearts to a friendship filled with infinite love and guidance --JMS
