When that desire has been fertilized, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is fully ripe, it bringeth forth death (James 1:15)
Eve explained the rules to Satan, the tempter. According to God's rules, he and Adam were allowed to eat fruit from any tree in the Garden of Eden, except for the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden. He said, just touching it can lead to death.
I can imagine Satan turning his face away, and with a contemptuous laugh he said, You will never die (Genesis 3: 4). Then he deceived by saying that God hid good things from Eve (verse 5).
For thousands of years, the enemy has repeated that strategy. He doesn't even care if you believe in the sovereignty of the Bible, as long as he can make you disbelieve that between you and God is sin.
You will never die, he said. That is the theme in many modern novels. The play lives in disobedience to God, but does not accept the consequences. In television shows and films, the actors rebel against God's moral law but live happily ever after.
There is even a perfume branded My sin (dosaku). The aroma is very seductive, attractive, and exciting, so the advertisement says, so the most suitable name for him is My Sin. You would never guess that sin is a detestable odor to God.
When trials come your way, will you believe Satan's lies? Or will you heed God's warning? -HWR
