May God, the source of hope, fill you with all joy and peace in your faith, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you abound in hope (Romans 15:13)
The chorus of the old hymn At The Cross ends with joyful words: "And now I am always happy!" I don't know about you, but I can't honestly say that knowing Jesus is my Savior guarantees that I will always be happy. I am a fairly optimistic person and will not allow myself to be easily disappointed, but there are also circumstances that are not pleasant and cannot bring a smile to my face.
The various difficulties we face may make us wonder: Shouldn't faith make us always happy? Shouldn't Jesus protect us from evil and danger?
Some people teach these things, but the Bible doesn't. God's Word makes it clear that we will definitely face problems. For example, in Romans 8 the Apostle Paul spoke candidly about the difficult times we might face (verses 35-39). In fact, Jesus does not protect us from all problems, but His love and inclusion guide us in living it.
A more realistic attitude than "always be happy" is like a sentence once expressed by a Christian, "Now that I am saved, I am happier when I have to face disappointment than before when I was happy but not yet saved."
With Jesus Christ, we can have true joy and continue to feel it even in difficult times [JDB]
