MAGIC

Maria . sitting at the Lord's feet and listening to His words, while Martha was very busy serving (Luke 10:39,40)

In North Carolina there was a mother who—really—became a magician. And indeed, the whole family can put on a show of simultaneously throwing household items into the air and then catching them. Imagine how excited their dinner party was!

Today many women are also "magicians", either running a business or being an ordinary housewife. The task of completing daily household chores usually falls to women, especially mothers. Women in the 21st century have many things to work on at the same time—from managing the frying pan and stroller to keeping promises and paying mortgages. All of this can be really time-consuming.

Society values people who can stick to tight schedules and get things done. Thus, women who simply sit at "Jesus' feet" (Luke 10:39,40) are sometimes seen as unproductive. But Jesus commended Mary because she had spent time with Him (v. 42). Of course there is still work to be done. But Maria had chosen the best.

Men can help women to spend time with Jesus by completing the daily household chores. As for the women, stop doing daily "magic" so that you have time to associate with God —DB
