Then Jesus said to her, "Mother, great is your faith, so be it to you as you wish" (Matthew 15:28)
In 1953, a start-up company, Rocket Chemical Company and three of their staff, set out to create a rust-preventing solvent and lube product for use in the aerospace industry. They experimented 40 times to perfect the formula. The formula called WD-40 -- short for Water Displacement, 40th attempt -- is still used today. What admirable tenacity!
The Gospel of Matthew records another story about the unyielding spirit. A Canaanite woman had a daughter who was possessed by a demon. The woman had no hope for her child -- until she heard Jesus was in her area.
This desperate woman came to Jesus with her problems because she believed He could help her. She cried out to Him even though it seemed like everything and everyone was against her -- race, religious background, gender, disciples, Satan, and it looked like Jesus did too (Matthew 15:22-27). He faced many obstacles, but he did not give up. He persistently pushed forward through the dark alley of difficulties, impossible desires, and rejection. The result? Jesus appreciated the woman's faith and healed her daughter (verse 28).
We are also invited to approach Jesus with a spirit of never giving up. If we keep asking, seeking, and knocking, we will find grace and mercy when we need it --MW
Something happens when we pray,
ATTITUDE OF NEVER GIVE UP IN PRAYER WILL PLEASE THE HEART OF GOD
